We all have days where working out seems like the last thing we want to do. Sometimes this means we skip a day, but really we need to devised ways of pushing on through even when you could cheerfully go back to bed or chill out on the sofa. There are some great gadget ideas out there to help you find your motivation, let’s take a look at some of the must-have technology items to motivate you on your indoor cycling experience.
Wearable Fitness Trackers
The wearable fitness tracker was the must-have gadget of 2016 and remains popular, however, not all of them are set up with cycling in mind. Many are only able to track steps, and their internal workings can just count footfall so are useless when you are peddling. The opinion will still be divided over the best trackers for the cyclist but here are two great ranking ones.
Wahoo is a chest tracker, which is a better place to wear such a device when cycling. It fits well and doesn’t seem to cause any discomfort or restrict and can measure the heart rate and for spinning classes your cadence, which we all know to be a vital measurement. If you have space on the bike for your phone, you can see real-time data which really helps you work that little bit harder.
The Moov Now is an ankle based tracker that works for all your daily activity, not just your cycling so if having a tracker strapped around your leg all day doesn’t bother you this could be a great tool, While this wearable doesn’t allow heart rate tracking it does hit the cadence requirement. Again there is no screen, and you wouldn’t be able to see it anyway so you will need your phone on hand.
Another great motivator for getting the job done on a bad day is your favourite playlist. Now there are many devices for streaming those tunes, from iPods to MP3 players and of course now many phones too. However, the most significant factor for cyclists is headphones. You do not want to get caught up in wires or risking pulling your earphones out, so we are voting for wireless solutions.
Bluetooth headphones are an excellent choice, and there are many different sets on the market. Neckbands are a unique way to get a snug fit that won’t dislodge even during a vigorous workout. Plantronics is just one manufacturer out there, but there are loads.
The most favoured headphones of cyclist this year feature bone conduction technology. This enables you to hear the music thanks to the vibrations in the bones of your face. While this might sound a bit science fiction, we are sure once you have tried them you will see, well hear, the difference. Again there are many great brands available from AfterShokz to Sain Sonic. Have a read and see what you think! They are different, but they may just offer the motivational streaming if your tunes that you need to hit those targets.
